Veneer repair question

I have a 3F03 clock with cracked veneer.  The section of veneer from the crack and toward the center is hollow sounding.  I tried flexing the veneer and it moves but not enough to get glue underneath it.  I have limited veneer repair experience. The hollowness is about 1/2" wide.  Repair suggestions anyone?

I looked harder at the crack and it is not thin veneer.  It is actually wood that is 3/16" thick.  So I decided to dump a bunch of wood glue on the crack and flex the wood expecting some glue to get forced in and under the top layer. Will know tomorrow if it worked.

I use compressed air to force glue into cracks. Similarly I also use a vacuum cleaner to pull glue into large cracks like in a gap between boards in butcher block.

How about a picture? Did you mix any wood shavings or sawdust into the glue?  Did you sand down after the glue dried with the thought of refinishing?

I am refinishing it right now so no pictures.  I used basic wood filler in a tube to fill the gap.  The color I had was close to the wood color.  Then stained it.  And now polyurethane. 

When I got the clock most of the finish appeared to be either gone or very thin on the back.   I scraped the back, glued it, filled it, scraped and sanded it, stained, polyurethane.  I will post in a couple days when all is done.  My refinishing job is not fine furniture quality but it looks a lot better than when I got it.

Picture from cell phone of ebay picture.  As received.  Because of the condition of the case and probably a going bad rotor I got the clock for $15.  So i knew it was going to need some loving.

Must have made them on a monday.......

Cannot see it but there is a satin finish now on the wood.  The base is still drying and hardening.  I shut down my clockworks.  Getting some large items removed from the basement and my work table was in the way.  Hope to be back up in a week.
