Telechron mounted atop Vending Machines
« on: December 10, 2018, 07:18:13 PM »
Hello,

Performed a quick search on this Forum but did not see anything related...
Does anyone have literature or information regarding the clock pictured...?
It's in a brochure I have for early National Vending Machines.

Thanks!

That's a new one on me.
What this country needs is a good $5 parts clock.

The clock itself appears to be a 4F67 Embassy. Interesting way to use it.

Thanks for the replies!
I would consider fabricating the clock housing if this style clock is readily available for a reasonably priced purchase.
Based on my calculations, I estimate the clock to be approx. 4" wide and 5" or 5 1/2" tall; does this seem to fit the submitted clocks...?
Thanks again!

These models are not especially rare or expensive.  They can often be had for $20-$50.  Note that the Nocturne (with the dark ring) has radium paint on the dial and hands, so it is radioactive, and one should be very careful when handling the radium paint (which tends to crumble and is hazardous to inhale or ingest).

Shipnerd can confirm (I don't have one to measure).  Linz gives the dimensions as 5 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/4 inches high.  They are pretty common with a white chapter ring.  The black is less common--I infer it's on the "L" (luminous) models)--and has radium-based paint on the dial and hands which you might prefer not to deal with (the dust, when breathed or ingested, can cause cancer).

There are two 4F67 Embassies on ebay right now in the $40 region.

Mine are up on a high shelf which I cannot reach without a stepladder, and there are too many things on the floor to be able to put a stepladder there, but according the the crystals page, the glass is 4 3/4" x 5 1/2".

I measured my Embassy and it is just about 5 5/16"W x 6 3/16"H overall. I almost passed on buying it 10 years ago because of the Chas M. Cox plate that's on the face. I saw it had been relisted on eBay a couple of times with no takers, and the price was reasonable and the seller was nearby, so I went ahead and bought it. And now I'm glad I did. I've seen a few more with the commemorative plate show up over the years since but not that many.

Thanks for all the dialog on this ! ! !

I think my best option may be the 7F75 Nocturne as this clock closely resembles the one in my photo and it was stated the numbers glow in the dark, to some degree, which would aid in reading since these vendors are many times located in dark places. However, I could not locate a "no-alarm" version of the 7F75; does one exist...?

Awesome group of collectors ! ! !
Many Thanks again ! ! !

The "7" prefix in 7F75 means alarm clock.  So they will have the alarm ring on the face.  There is no need to install the alarm hand, but unless you make an effort to remove the paint for the alarm ring, it will be there.  Don't underestimate the danger of the crumbly radium phosphor compound, nor overestimate its ability to glow.  Do not inhale nor ingest the dust.  Also, the zinc salts which comprise the phosphor tend to deteriorate with age and the phosphorescence is usually fairly weak.

I got $5 says it wasn't the Nocturne dial.  Have you guys runs into a Telechron commercial clock with luminous hands and dial?

All this talk about the Nocturne has me thinking I will purchase a 4F67.  As mentioned, there are two currently on greedbay priced around $45 + shipping.
Are these clocks prone to generating noise and if so, can this be corrected...?  Also, can the black plastic trim along the bottom be removed without too much trouble...?

Thanks again for the input!

No problems with noise unless the rotor is worn, and those are easily replaceable.  The black plastic trim is held in place by two small screws on the inside of the front bezel, which is held in place by four very small screws around the outer edge.

Many Thanks again for all the input!
I purchased one offered on greedbay for $30 + shipping; once it arrives, time to fabricate the housing and design a secure way to install the clock housing...
I'll post back at some point the final result...
