Big Ben and Baby Ben Style 5
« on: May 23, 2017, 12:21:58 PM »
I'm slowly adding to my Big & Baby Ben collection  :.D  Big Ben style 5a and Baby Ben style 5. Both were made between 1939 and 1949.  I'm able to date the Big Ben to late '45/early '46 as it has the hanger in the back.  I got the Baby Ben last year and picked up the Big Ben from a seller in PEI a few weeks ago.  This Big Ben is a 'Loud Alarm model', similar to a fire alarm!

You may or may not already know, but when the clock is serviced, there is a month and year stamped inside on the movement as I recall.  If you are interested, ask the person cleaning and oiling your clock, and he/she can probably write this down for you!

Thanks, that's good to know!  I haven't taken any of them in for servicing, but hope to within the next few months.  I'll ask them to write down any info they find on the movement.

I've developed a real soft spot for the Westclox windups.  But you're right - they are LOUD.  Even the chime alarms are a bit too loud for my liking!  *}}

I've had mine opened up a couple of times since cleaning it and finding out about the date, but I couldn't find anything on the movement areas I could see.
