Vintage Rival Juice-O-Matic (RIP)
« on: June 11, 2014, 11:38:40 AM »
Maybe not THE dumbest thing I've done in my adult life but right up there in the top ten.

Bought one of these (not this exact one) at the flea market Sunday.

Do you want to know why you should never try to remove paint from something by sticking it the oven until the paint "blisters off"?  Do you?  Are you sure?

As God as my witness, I thought the base was steel...   ())

What this country needs is a good $5 parts clock.

Yeah.  I think you're right.  Aluminum is A LOT higher than zinc.  I bet it WAS zinc.  That would at least account for why it looked different from the rest.   *^@

More questions on this curiosity...

What was the oven temperature?
How much time did it take?
Did you add the cookie sheet when it started drooping or did you "set it and forget it"?
Is that puddle the whole unit or just the painted base?

What was the oven temperature?  Self-clean mode.  So, a million degrees.
How much time did it take?   Less than 2 hours.
Did you add the cookie sheet when it started drooping or did you "set it and forget it"?  The cookie sheet was already in there, thank Goodness.
Is that puddle the whole unit or just the painted base?  Just the painted base.  The steel sheet metal set screw for the handle is in the puddle, solid.

A self-cleaning oven is an oven which uses high temperature approximately 500 degrees Celsius (900 degrees Fahrenheit)

Aluminum     Melting point           933.47 K,?660.32 ?C,?1220.58 ?F
Zinc              Melting point           692.68 K,?419.53 ?C,?787.15 ?F
Magnesium  Melting point           923 K,?650 ?C,?1202 ?F

Pot metal?also known as monkey metal, white metal, or die-cast zinc?is a colloquial term that refers to alloys of low-melting point metals that manufacturers use to make fast, inexpensive castings.

(100% wiki)

Next time, toss in a 711 case, I bet it'll melt.

Your oven racks are inserted backwards.

Matt unplugs his stove before changing the oven rack.  I don't usually do that.

The light bulb in my refrigerator is burned out. Does Matt have a video showing how to replace that?

Oh, good. My life is now complete. I can die happy, safe in the knowledge that there will be a working light in my refrigerator.
